Why Should I join ACA?
The American Counseling Association(ACA) is dedicated to the growth and promotion of the counseling profession and is inclusive of all counseling specialties. By providing leadership training, opportunities to earn continuing education credits, professional resources, a Code of Ethics, and advocacy and legislative services, ACA helps you develop your professional skills and expand your effectiveness; at the same time ACA works to raise the profile of counseling as a profession and in society as a whole.

ACA Convention
ACA hosts the world's largest convention for professional counselors, and the most extensive products and services expo. ACA is an international organization which will allow you to exchange valuable information and experience with your peers from around the world. The ACA convention is the top venue for professional development, career and educational opportunities in the counseling profession, and, of course, members always register at the lowest rates. ACA also holds four regional meetings each year which feature workshops, continuing education, networking, and the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
Career Services
ACA provides complete career development services including resume and cover letter review and assistance. Phone consultation is available for job search advice from ACA's career development specialist. Through a partnership with Career Builder, ACA offers members exclusive access to specially selected counseling jobs.
ACA Insurance Trust
ACA Offers you comprehensive professional liability insurance through the ACA Insurance Trust, extending to discounts on homeowners, auto, disability and life insurance, The ACA Trust maintains an attorney helpline to assist you with legal liability issues; a free CD detailing risk management in the counseling profession is also available through the Trust. ACA Foundation
The ACA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the association and supports counselors through the Counselors Care Fund, through our many foundation-sponsored publications, and through grants and competitions which offer awards ranging from financial assistance to membership.
Types of Membership
Regular: Individuals whose interests and activities are consistent with those of ACA, but who are not qualified for the professional membership.
New Professional: Status is applicable only to current student members who have graduated in the past 12 months. Status is good for one year.
Student: Individuals who are enrolled at least half-time in a college or university program.
Retired: Members who are retired from the counseling profession and have been active ACA members for the past 5 consecutive years.
